DEVELOPING CONSTRUCTION
Delivered across the South of Scotland by the BCIF
"Developing Construction" is a project aligned with and delivering against Scottish Enterprise's commitment to supporting the construction sector with particular focus and activity towards exploiting future economic activities in the sector.
Delivered across the South of Scotland by the Building and Construction Industry Forum (BCIF), "Developing Construction" aims to deliver construction specific business growth, management training, advisor support and advice services to businesses of all sizes across the South of Scotland.
"Developing Construction" seeks to build on the successful delivery of the Construction Skills Action Plans across the South of Scotland and address some of the challenges facing the construction industry in general, including:
- Economic downturn
- Company diversification
- Tendering and procurement
- Changing skills demands
- Renewable energy
- Heritage and maintenance
BCIF aim to address and improve these and other issues over the next three years, by building delivery mechanisms that engage and encourage construction businesses of all sizes to adopt new working practices and implement innovative cooperative approaches towards growing their business and the management skills of their employees.

DEVELOPING CONSTRUCTION SERVICES
 "Developing Construction" is funded by Scottish Enterprise and delivered by BCIF. The services identified as part of Developing Construction are:
Building & Construction Advice & Assistance
- Provide a face to face sector specific business growth, management training, advisory support and diversification advice services
- Signpost companies to relevant agencies – SDS, SCC, Construction Skills, RICS and Business Gateway etc
- Provide procurement advice and guidance
- Assist companies to improve efficiency and develop effective measurement / recording systems to assist with this
Development & Promotion
- Promote the benefits of cooperation
- Promote possible economic opportunities around heritage skills and develop the South of Scotland’s heritage skills base
- Develop and promote renewable energy systems and the economic linkages to the construction sector in the South of Scotland
- Operate a pilot project to develop and increase the adoption of renewable technologies and sustainable construction (including waste) throughout the South of Scotland
Communication & Facilitation
- Facilitate inter agency working and eliminate duplication particularly amongst the public sector organisations
- Provide robust South of Scotland construction labour market information
- Develop and refine integrated recruitment, training and development solutions with partners locally
- Act as a conduit between local and national agencies and the local construction industry
