New Refurbishment Passport Is As Easy As ABC

ConstructionSkills is extending the ABC (Achieving Behavioural Change) passport programme to the whole construction industry.

The programme, which tackles safety issues in refurbishing occupied buildings, involves a single day's training and will be integrated into ConstructionSkills' Site Safety Plus life-long learning health and safety training suite.

ABC was originally developed with the Department for Work and Pensions and the HSE to improve health and safety standards on a major refurbishment programme of 900 job centres and social security offices.

The scheme helped the DWP cut the refurbishment programme's accident incident rate to a 10th of the construction industry average, with a claimed saving of £8.9 million on an overall project cost of £600 million. As the sector skills council for the industry, ConstructionSkills decided to extend the course across the sector. It is now available through the body's training division, the National Construction College, and approved trainers.
