Up to £100M of construction contracts could be available to local companies interested in tendering for sub-contract work. Members will be aware that the schools project is a major construction opportunity that the Forum has been keeping track of.
We are pleased to announce that Dumfries and Galloway Council will shortly be concluding legal agreements with e4D&G who will construct and run the 10 new schools on 8 sites throughout the area.
e4D&G is a consortium between Amey and FMP: Amey will deliver the Facilities Management when the schools are operating and FMP will deliver the construction contract.
FMP brings together 3 well known contractors from Ireland: Farrans, H&J Martin and The Patton Group. All 3 companies are committed to using local contractors, suppliers and labour.
Grant Robinson, the Project Director for FMP said “FMP is genuinely excited about the opportunity of working in Dumfries and Galloway and we have given a commitment that we will do all we can to ensure local companies get a fair crack at the subcontract opportunities.”
Grant continued: “ We want to get to know local companies and for them to get to know us that’s why we’re hosting two open evenings in Stranraer and Dumfries to let the market know more about the opportunity”.
The events will be held from 5.30pm until 8pm on the Stranraer Training Centre, Blackparks Industrial Estate on Wednesday 3rd October and on Thursday 4th October in the Easterbrook Hall, Dumfries. A presentation will be made by FMP at 6pm and representatives will be available to discuss the project, answer any questions and note interest.
The schools will all be new build except Stranraer which will involve some refurbishment. The sites are Wallace Hall Primary and Secondary, Thornhill; Castle Douglas Primary, Stranraer Academy; Kirkcudbright Primary; Moffat All- through school and Secondary; Lockerbie Primary and Secondary and 2 new primaries in Dumfries: Heathhall and Dumfries RC.
Construction is expected to start on some of the sites this winter and the project will run until summer 2010.
Companies can also register interest with Yvonne Malone at D&G CiF on 01387 243811 or yvonne@dgcif.org.uk
